HAdV-D17 was the first species D adenovirus to be sequenced and was deposited in GenBank in 1999. These genome data were not of

high quality, and a redetermination of the same stock virus provides corrected data; among the differences are a length of 35,139 bp versus 35,100 bp in the original, and 160 mismatches to the original genome were found. Annotation of the coding sequences reveals 39 as opposed to 8, a finding which is important for phylogenomic studies.”
“The goal of the study was to determine social and diagnostic characteristics of persons who end their lives by jumping from heights and to compare the characteristics of those who jump from bridges with those jumping from other sites. Data on suicide in Switzerland between 1990 and 2003 were collected from the Swiss Federal Statistical Office and from local authorities. Persons who jumped from heights in general were more likely to suffer from schizophrenia than those who used other methods. Persons who jumped from bridges were younger than those committing suicide by other methods. Compared with those who jumped from other sites, subjects

were on average 14.3 years younger and more often male. Individuals who jumped from bridges close to psychiatric hospitals were more likely to suffer from psychiatric illness. Individuals who jump from bridges differ in certain characteristics from those who jump from other sites. For future classification it may be helpful to distinguish suicides from

bridges from suicides from other heights. For prevention of suicide from bridges, attention should be paid to characteristics of young persons at risk. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.”
“In the future, biomass will continue to emerge as a viable source of chemicals. The development of new industries that utilize bio-renewables provides opportunities for innovation. For example, bio- and chemo-catalysts can be combined in ‘one pot’ to prepare chemicals of commercial value. This has been demonstrated using isolated enzymes and whole cells for a variety of chemical transformations. The one-pot approach has been successfully adopted to convert chemicals derived from biomass, and, in our opinion, it has an important role to play in the design of a more sustainable chemical industry. To implement new one-pot bio- and chemo-catalytic 2 processes, issues of incompatibility must be overcome; the strategies for which are discussed in this opinion article.”
“The effects of long-term cranberry consumption on age-related changes in endocrine pancreas are not fully understood. Here we treated male Fischer 344 rats with either 2% whole cranberry powder supplemented or normal rodent chow from 6 to 22 month old. Both groups displayed an age-related decline in basal plasma insulin concentrations, but this age-related decline was delayed by cranberry.
